The Great Dharma Chan Monastery is a 25,000-square-foot Buddhist Meditation Center, which consists of a main sanctuary building and associated residential monastery developed on a beautiful, rural 35-acre site in East Boulder. The property’s quiet rural farm character is the ideal calm atmosphere for meditation practice and Buddhist instruction, prioritizing purity of mind and a caring, fulfilling way of life. The Monastery utilized multiple types of mass timber products within its structure - these products are less carbon intensive than other building materials & have a smaller environmental footprint. The use of mass timber in this project alone avoided 457 metric tons of C02, equivalent to keeping 411 cars off the road for a year. The intention for the center’s design encourages mindfulness and incorporates a harmonic relationship with the environment.
